WTHL Keeper League - Official Info Sheet

In addition to the keeper league itself, the league will also be adopting a waiver rules system. This year as players are

dropped, they are available as free agents right away. Next year, they will be available after at least one day and should more than one team attempt to acquire them, the team with the highest priority in waivers (as displayed on the front page) will be the one to get him. This was a system used in the first year, but not since. I think in the direction we are going, it makes sense.

Everything else regarding stats, number of players, positions, contest and anything else we've developed over the years will remain the same.

Now, on the how keeper league will work. I said there would be no changes, and essentially there are not for next year... per say. We do have some add-ons however.

-----------------------------------------
How it'll Work : 09-10 Season
-----------------------------------------

One week before draft day, each team must submit their 5 keeper players from their final roster of the 08-09 season and they can select any player from any position. These players will then be considered under contract to this team.

---The Contract---

Each keeper player will be owned by the GM who drafted them for a total of 3 full seasons. After their contract is up, they

will become free agents and available for any team to draft that year. These end contract players will only be available for selection after the keeper players rounds are finished, typically starting in round 6.

---NOTES---

-- Should a team trade this under contract keeper player, the team who acquires them will assume that contract. If team A had the K player for 2 years and trades them, Team B will only be able to have this player for 1 year before they are available for drafting again.

-- Teams are not required to keep the K player for the full duration of the contract. The player can be dropped at any time and made available for any team to acquire. If a new team does acquire this K player, they will not be under any contract. This right is reserved for K players selected at draft time only.

-- A season or year is considered a period between draft day to draft day.

-----------------------------------------
10-11 Season (and beyond) Additions
-----------------------------------------

For the keeper players, each team will be subjected to a limited number of selections per position; 2 Centers, 1 Left Wing, 1 Right Wing, 2 Defense and 1 Goalie. 7 in total.

This years roster will feature an addition of 1 player, making your total roster now 21. This will leave 14 picks in the draft from the open market.

Note that this extra position will be a benched position.

-----------------------------------------
FAQ
-----------------------------------------

Q: What if a GM decides to not rejoin next year?

A: Their team is dismantled and thrown into open market for draft picks 6 thru 20 (or 8 thru 21 in following years)

--

Q: Is the draft any different next year?

A: In addition to the keeper, yes. We will have a lottery draft based on this years final standings. Bottom 7 teams (or 8) will have entries into to a lottery for first overall, with the last ranked team getting the most entries. The top 8 will pick in descending order from 8 to 1, with 1 being last overall. This draft will still be a snake style draft.

--

Q: What if we expand into 16 teams? (or pick up new teams from other ones leaving)

A: The expansion teams will get their crack at first overall by having the highest number of entries in the draft lottery. They will pick 5 (or 7 in following years) players from those that remain un-kept, but must also do this by the due date of a week before the draft.

If there are more than one new team, they will have equal entries into the lottery.

-------------------------------------------

And that's about it. I think it's a fairly developed system that's fair to everyone. I thank you all for your input. I hope you all have a great season and good luck developing your dynasties!

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know.

It's been an interesting week (September 28th-October 4th) for the WTHL with controversy surrounding perhaps the biggest trade in the history of the league.
