Mover and Shaker - Week 20

As month five ends, most GM's are likely becoming anxious over the thought that season end approaches quickly. There is only 42 playable days left to the season after all and as fast as time seems to go, April 10th (the last day of games for 2011) will be here before everyone knows it. With trade deadline only days away, GM's have decisions to make depending on which tier they reside and what they believe possible.

In the top tier, four teams fight for bragging rights and cash with three going in the right direction to make that happen, one quite the opposite. In tier two, five teams battle it out for a top five ranking and currently stand within five points of each other (that's a lot of 5's). In the fourth tier, four teams try to take home a top ten ranking with them fighting over only 7 points. The final tier of 3 just fight to be the least embarrassed at this point, if they have any fight at all. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out in the final weeks.

The moving and shaking this week happened within the 2nd and 3rd tiers and it was tight, perhaps the tightest I've seen all season. Of the seven teams that gained in points, CaptainPowerMoose and Caribous tied in gains with 8.5; a nice achievement. If it wasn't for the Flames and his gain of 9 points during the week, they both would have won a free move. Alas though, Flames had a harder push and that extra 0.5 was the nail in the coffin crowning him this weeks title of Mover and Shaker. He gets the prize, dropping his used transactions down to 12.

Mover and Shaker - Week 19

Two weeks ago in this update, we spoke about gap that is closing between the elite of this season. At that time, Ploughmans Posse held a 33 point lead over the 2nd place team. Now 14 days later, that lead has been cut to 21.5 points. This is partially due to the 4 week consecutive drop in points by the Posse but also due to an equal amount of time rising in points by FIGJAM, let alone the steadiness of Greatness who hovers ever so close to the prize. As each week passes, the clear victor for season six becomes less an less apparent and this no doubt will prove to be an interesting finish.

In equally interesting news, the top mover this week is one team who we have spent a considerable amount of time discussing in the early months but, as of late, has faded into the background. It's not a positive fact if this fading out of the limelight is by design or not, but it is certainly likely that this teams gain of 12.5 points this week will be enough to awaken the mouth forcing him back into the spotlight. The inTIMidators, last years champ and this years heel, was one of only 7 teams who rose in points this week and the only one to break double digits. In fact, the closest challenger behind him only gained 4.5 points making GM Tim the clear cut winner by a large margin. Now sitting in 6th place and having made some trades this week, it'll be interesting to see how much gusto this team has and whether or not it'll be enough to challenge the elite come years end. With the win this week, he'll have one extra move to help him achieve that, now with 23 used instead of 24.

Mover and Shaker - Week 18

In analyzing a hockey league such as this one, it's not only the commanding leads that's interesting to pay attention to; It's the embarrassingly low totals as well. After checking the archives that we've kept since season three, the previous lowest total ever recorded was at the end of week 15 in season 4, whereby FIGGY (newbie at the time) had only 84.5pts. Flash forward to Season six, the now, and that record has been shattered by TeamSniperElite who currently sits at 64.5 points. It's a disaster of a year for this franchise, there is no doubt about that. The question now, how low can it go?

A team that is having a far better year as of late however is Killbot Factory who two weeks ago grabbed 15.5 points to take home the mover and shaker. It's not much different two weeks later with the only two things being that he jumped only 11.5 points this time and instead of moving into 5th place, he moved into 4th. It should not be ignored that this team has risen nearly 30 points since the end of week 15 and this weeks addition of 11.5 crowns him yet again Mover and Shaker, giving him a free move. He now has 12 used instead of 13.

Mover and Shaker - Week 17

The storyline that cannot be ignored each week has been the dominance of one team over the rest for the majority of the season thus far. The storyline however, appears to be shifting from clear dominance to a potential dog fight between two or three teams. The highest recorded points total this season for Ploughman's Posse was 255 points and at that time (at end end of week 11), this team had a 63 point lead on the second placed team. Six weeks later, the WTHL dominatrix has now dropped 20 points overall and what's worse for him is that two teams below him have closed the gap to just 33 points. It's clear that there is still a lot of work to do to topple the top team but, having two others above the 200 point threshold must be unnerving to at least one GM.

In moving and shaking, it's interesting to note that one of the two teams that have rose above 200 points (FIGJAM) was a high gainer this week; nine points in fact. It wasn't enough to take home the prize, but a nice gain none the less.  Flames managed to gain one more point over the past week and a bit (of playing time) and with his 10 points has gained the title of week 17's Mover and Shaker. With the achievement, his max transactions drop from 14 used to 13.
