2012-2013 Champion

It was an incredible run for this years champion, who dominated the majority of the season in the number one position.  Though Greatness - and basically nobody else - gave FIGJAM a run for his money throughout the year, he could not compete with the incredible game that this years champ has played, which essentially began last year by way of developing a wonderful draft. From there, to great picks in that draft, to solid moves all season, the champ title is extremely well deserved. There has been a few teams to have done such dominating over the years on their way to the championship, but none have finished with so many points - 245 in total. Amazing. Simply amazing.

Congratulations to FIGJAM for taking home the top prize this year, and also to Greatness who finished 2nd, plus Caribous who pushed his way up the ranks to finish in 3rd.

Bravo to everyone for another awesome season!

Mover and Shaker - Week 15

It's all but certain who the winner is this year, but due to their being one more game today, we can't officially announce it until tomorrow. We can however, take one final look at mover and shakers, and hand out the last award for the year.

It appears that FIGJAM just wanted to rub some salt in the wounds of everyone else in the league during the final stretch. Not only has he dominated most of the season in the number one position, in the last week he gained 10 big points. This was enough to make him the highest mover over the 7 days. It's been a massive season for him, and not only will he end it as champ, he'll do so as the final Mover and Shaker as well. Though he may not use it, he does gain a free move, dropping him from 13 used down to 12.

Important Dates 2013

Head's up to all GM's on some important dates to remember in the off season.

Monday April 29th
2012-2013 season ends with the champion being crowned. The final rosters and draft pick spreadsheets will be updated as soon as possible.

June 1st
A multi important date this will be. We will have our year end bash, and we will also conduct this year's lottery draft. Directly following that, off season trading will open. This will have to take place outside of yahoo, so be sure to let GM's know your email if interested in trading.

Sunday September 1st
10 Keepers are due end of day on this date (or 10 keepers will be randomly selected for you).

Late August / Early September
The yahoo leagues will open and all GM's will be invited.

Sunday September 15th
This is draft day for the 2013-2014 season. You definitely don't want to miss it.

Early October
NHL season (and thus 'The dub') will begin.

Be sure to keep these important dates in mind!

Mover and Shaker - Week 14

In the second to last week of the season, the story for the leading teams was all about keeping steady. FIGJAM, Greatness and Caribous are holding tight to the top 3 positions, and it doesn't appear that they will be moving, one way or the other, any time soon. The basement teams are holding tight to their positions too, as they attempt to solidify a high lottery pick.

There is another story working itself out, and it involves games played. It's clear that everyone is working towards maxing out their games - because, who wouldn't? - but the most interesting aspect of this story are the couple who have yet to reach the minimum games played. Fast and Bulbus, along with Porters Penguins, are the only two who have not reached the 702 game mark. It was iffy a couple of weeks ago whether they would make it or not, but it appears that something scared them into action - perhaps the reminder of loosing keepers, picks and moves - and they will likely now reach the minimum mark come end of next week. For their sake, I hope so.

In moving and shaking - perhaps a clear message that just playing games can achieve good results - we have Porter's Penguins who destroyed all rising competition this week. His 16 point gain was 10 above his next competitor and with that achievement, he is crowned champ, gaining him a free transaction. He now has 12 instead of 13 used.

Mover and Shaker - Week 13

There are only two weeks left to the 2012-2013 season, and now that we're this close to the end, I think it's time to have a look at how all the past champs are doing at this point. It's a pertinent time to do so, as one out of this list has an opportunity to be the first ever two-time champion, while another is this weeks mover and shaker. We'll get to that in a minute, but first:
  • Ellicott Inferno (Ultimate Bohabs at the time) won in year two, but hasn't done much since. He currently sits in 12th overall, with only a small chance of breaking into the top 10.
  • Untrust won in year three, and likes stories. His current story is that he has see-sawed between 4th and 8th position all season, never going higher and never going lower.
  • Greatness won in year four; his inaugural season. He has battled hard this year and currently sits in 2nd overall, where he has sat most of the season, if not in 1st. He is 10 points from winning again.
  • The inTIMidators won in year five. He has been fairly quiet for most of the year, after an early attempt to push up the ranks. In the end, he may finish in the top 5 - definitely top 10.
  • Ploughman's Posse won in year six. Normally a perennial competitor, it appears that he focused on a rebuild-on-the-fly type year this season. Though he'll finish in the top 10, it'll be a abnormally quiet finish.
  • No Homer's is the current champ, having won last year. In the off-season, it was all but certain for him that he would be the first ever back-to-back champ. He hasn't been so loud about such things for months. He will likely finish in the top 10, but that's about it.
In moving and shaking, we focus on the champ of year three and his 15 point gain over the past week. Untrust pushed himself into the top 5 with this gain and with it won a free move, dropping him from 14 used, down to 13.

Mover and Shaker - Week 12

The war between Greatness and FIGJAM rages on... but, that isn't the main headline this week. This week it's about rising stars and falling rocks as we focus on the race for third. In a somewhat unnoticed achievement, Milltown Moose has held onto the 3rd overall position since the end of week 4, not moving an inch one way another. That is quite commendable, but it all ended in week 12 as Caribous pushed him out of bronze position with a remarkable 24 point gain over the month. Looking at the Monthly Movement stats, the -7 point drop over the month didn't help Moose's cause either. It's difficult to tell which of these deer species will win 3rd overall - it is unlikely either will go higher - but it'll fun to watch as they battle it out.

In moving and shaking we have the bottom dweller making a push - not up the ranks or anything - to gain some street cred, or maybe just a free move, which he did with this weeks 12 point gain. Zig Zag Zambonies in crowned Mover and Shaker in Week 12 and with it drops from 8 moves used, down to 7.
