Mover & Shaker November

Another month has concluded in the beloved dub, and one thing is for certain; the top tier of teams are extremely competitive this year. This is great to see, considering in most years we have a couple teams blowing the rest of the league out of the water for many months of the year. Not this year, however; this year we have the top 3 teams being 1.5 points away from each other, the top 5 teams only 8 points away from each other, and the 7th place team is only 16 points back from 1st. Pretty incredible stuff so far, but the most notable thing right now is seeing a perennial contender competing when he probably shouldn't be. At the start of the year Greatness sold off much of his stock in effort to prepare for future years, like a few other teams did this year. Even after doing this, the team remains in the top 3, after spending much of November 1st overall. Simply amazing really.

The movers and shakers this month come from the top tier, as they likely will all season while the bottom tier all tank and prepare for the future. This time around, No Homers and King Flameheads had the best gains - 35 and 21.5 respectively - as they positioned themselves well within top competition. For the great months they had, they both win a free transaction.

Mover & Shaker October

It's nearly a full month into the 11th season of our beloved league, and as per normal things have been extremely interesting thus far. The season began with last years top contenders immediately selling off most of their player assets in a tactic to ensure many of the very best players return to their rosters for future years. This set off a trade flurry as the teams who weren't giving up this year pushed to get as many of those assets as they could. All teams were basically forced to make a decision of whether or not to make a run this year or not, pretty much immediately. Everyone joined in, selling whatever assets they could, for either players or picks depending on their current outlook. As of this morning, there have been 33 trades made already in this early season, involving 89 player movements, along with 94 trade pick movements. Even at this very early junction, most of the teams are completely unrecognizable to the teams they started the year as.

After the bulk of trade activity calmed down, a top 8 / bottom 8 prediction was made by yours truly, based on gut feelings of the on paper rosters. As of right now, that prediction is near perfect, save two teams throwing it off. Ploughman's Posse hasn't quite held onto his early strong start, and has fallen just out of the top tier of 8. And Greatness appears to have the opposite issues; even after selling off top talent, he sits in 3rd place overall, seemingly unable to tank the season correctly. It's still extremely early, however, and whether or not this prediction comes true, or how it will fall out exactly within those tiers is yet to be known. Rotisserie is a bitch, and sometimes the unknown can bite everyone in the ass.

We have a slight change to the Mover and Shaker award this season. Instead of doing this every 4 weeks - Sunday to Sundays - the awards will be declared on the 1st of every month, as a recap of sorts to the month prior. This first month is an easy calculation, based on everyone being tied for 1st at the start with 144.5 points. We have 9 teams above that mark currently, with the top two being Milltown Moose, and The inTIMidators. Their gains of 52.5 and 37.5 points respectively, not only put them in the top positions of the league, but also crown them the 1st month's Mover and Shakers, gaining them a free move each.

Ready To Rumble

September 1st has come and gone, and with that the deadline for keepers and trading has now passed. The keepers have been locked into the system, and all other roster players are officially free agents waiting to be drafted, or not. The players page - if filtered on 'All Available Players', which is default - will now have all 160 keepers removed from that list. You will likely still have to remove these players from your Pre-Draft Rankings if you want to see what's available or not in there, should you be the type to use the Pre-Draft Rankings option.

In addition to this, the draft picks for all 13 rounds of drafting have also been set up in the yahoo system. If you go to the 'Draft Results' page within the 'Draft' section of the league, you will see where all your picks are. Of course, this is always available on the blog as well.

As a reminder, draft day is on Sunday September 13th, starting at 9:00 PM Newfoundland time. Trading will officially open again immediately after the draft is complete.

The NHL begins it's games on Wednesday October 7th.

Let's get ready to rumble!

Off-Season Trades

There have been 4 trades to report in this off-season, some of which happened several months ago but never reported here. They were tracked in the Draft Pick Tracker within the stats pages, however, and the final rosters were also adjusted.

On April 19th, not long after the season ended, we had this trade between Greatness and No Homers

From Greatness:
Ryan Getzlaf
3rd Rd Pick
3rd Rd Pick (Via Caribous)

From No Homers:
Patrice Bergeron
4th Rd Pick (Via Figjam)
4th Rd Pick (Via Greatness)

No Homers was busy again, just a couple weeks later, this time striking a deal with Figjam.

From Figjam:
Brandon Dubinsky
8th Rd Pick (via Caribous)

From No Homers:
4th Rd Pick (via Omar Epp's Nipples)

Then the inTIMidators and Zig Zag Zambonies pulled off a straight up player trade

From The inTIMidators:
Mike Green

From Zig Zag Zambonies:
Henrik Sedin

And just today we have a whopper of a gamble trade between Roly Snipes and Milltown Moose

From Milltown Moose
2nd Rd Pick (via Zig Zag Zambonies)

From Roly Snipes
Patrick Kane
13 Rd Pick

2015-2016 Draft Order

It's a tad delayed that this post comes, but there's no real rush to share the news. The draft doesn't come until the 2nd Sunday in September after all. Nonetheless, after a wonderfully fun end season bash where the GMs of King Flameheads, Caribous, Original Moose, No Homers, Ploughman's Posse and Untrust were present, the following draft order was determined through the rules we have set out.

There are some happy stories here, and some oh so unhappy ones too.

2014-2015 Champion

The writing was on the wall for this years champ for much of the season. Finishing a full 25 points ahead of his next competitor, FIGJAM grabbed his 2nd championship in only 3 years. This is very impressive, and congrats to him for the incredible achievement! Greatness, once again, finished 2nd place - this being his 3rd year in a row, and 4th in 5 years, doing so.

In 3rd place we have a perennial bottom dweller rising up the ranks to capture his highest rank ever - Zig Zag Zambonies.

Congratulations to everyone for another incredible season in our beloved Dub. 10 years in the bag, and another 10 to come. Giddy up!

Mover and Shaker Month Five

It's horrendous that I'm only posting this now. It's over a week late, and there's just no excuse. I should be lashed, tar and feathered, hung up by my britches...

The stats were indeed captured on the 1st of this month, but no awards were given until today. For brevity sake, I will just announce the winners and let you all gather your own stories from the stats below. Untrust with a 16.5 point gain, and Greatness with a 14.5 point gain were the Mover and Shakers for February. For this, they both gain a move.

Mover and Shaker Month Four

(Before we begin, it should be noted that the stats were indeed captured yesterday, as planned)

This last month of action was a very exciting one to watch unfold. For the first time since we began capturing data this season, we have a change in the top 8, and bottom 8 - the 2 steady tiers, up to this point. It's partially due to Flames continued decent down the latter, but also because of the current champ, Ploughman's Posse, rise up the ranks. He just recently swapped places with Flames, who now sits at the top of the 2nd tier, but it should be noted that he is still pretty close to the reigning champ, just 6 points behind.

With that said, we have another huge change in the tiers. In fact, we have a tier within a tier situation that has formed at the very top. Right now, 3 past champions currently sit in a sound podium position, all being a good 20 points ahead of 4th place. What's even more exciting to those paying attention is that the superpower that is Greatness has finally fallen from his command of the top, and in fact has now fallen two spots to 3rd overall. He and Jack Daniels Ghost are in a massive battle for 2nd and 3rd overall, just a point apart. FIGJAM is the real story this month though, sitting pretty in 1st overall, up 26 points ahead of his nearest competition. Wow.

Also within the top tier is another dogfight for 4th overall. King Flameheads, Zig Zag Zambonies, Caribous and No Homers are all only within 7 points of each other. Sure, they are still a ways behind even third, but in a league where bragging rights matter, the higher placement the better. It'll be interesting to see what happens in that fight, and how it affects the rest of the teams. At this point, we could write off the bottom 7 teams as having no chance to get anywhere near the podium at this point. Sellers maybe?

Moving and shaking is all about past champions this month, with 3 of this months point leaders - all past champs - having tremendous month, each gaining over 20 points. Ploughmans Posse eeked out Jack Daniels Ghost, but just a half a point, and with his 22 points overall is crowned victor of the free move. Currently commander of the entire league, FIGJAM, gained an impressive 24.5 points, and for the 2nd month in a row - plus 52 points total during that time - he has grabbed a mover and shaker award, and with it another free move. Very impressive turn of events. This is a race to keep an eye on.

Mover and Shaker Month Three

The two tiers we examined in the first two months remain intact, with no team cracking the middle ground, neither moving north nor south - there is still almost a 20 point split between the top eight and bottom eight teams. The grouping of teams remain the same as before albeit, as per normal, things have shifted. In fact, Flame's rapid decent down the latter, and FIGJAM's opposite rise up, have opened up the possibility of new tiers forming in the coming month. If we dig a little deeper into the top tier, we should point out that there is also a 20+ point difference from rank 2 to rank 3. This means Greatness at number one, and newcomer FIGJAM at number two is a solid lock at the moment. Then there's a dog fight between 5 teams - King Flameheads, Jack Daniel's Ghost, Zig Zag Zambonies, No Homers, and Caribous - for 3rd overall, with only 8 points splitting them all.

We've already named the two Movers and Shakers for this month, both of whom come from the top tier. The 2nd highest point-gainer was No Homers, who narrowly edged out King Flameheads by only one point. His 14.5 points was nothing in comparison to FIGJAM, however, who gained a massive 27.5 points this month. He is now closer to the number one overall, Greatness, than anyone has been thus far - now only 11.5 points away. For these feats this month, both No Homers and FIGJAM gain a free move. Congrats.
